Vol.1 No.1 (Jan-Jun 2005)

One fine evening, during routine conversation with one senior member of our association, he quipped "persons having no 'IDEA' about 'IDA' are better than those who really bother for IDA". That was really the food for thought. Perhaps the phrase is true. Out of more than one lac twenty thousand dentists in India, IDA can boast of having only little more than ten thousand members, precisely not more than 10%.

With the speciality association and other upcoming federations, the strength of IDA members are going down. I am not against my fellow colleagues joining their speciality association or in that matter any other association, but to be a member of the parent body is very important and necessary.

The common question usually asked is 'what we'll gain if we become members of IDA ?' The question is not of gaining or losing, but the strength lies in the number. The association is your strength. Your identity in the society is because of the association. Couple of my dentist friends are not interested in actively participating; they can send their suggestion, opinion and vision to the head office and to state offices and be passion members.

My sincere appeal to all dental surgeons is please be a part of our prestigious association, Indian Dental Association and make it strong and efficient.

Yours in IDA,

Dr. Vimal Sikri
