Journal of Conservative Dentistry Vol.3 No.1 (Jan-Mar 2000)

To achieve success in any venture, direct and indirect help of so many persons is needed and combined efforts are involved.

At the outset, I must congratulate the organizers for organizing such a nice conference at Guwahati. While interacting and conversing with fellow colleagues during the conference, I found everyone in favour of improving the quality of the journal. I whole heartedly agreed with their views, however the modalities of improvement kept impinging my conscience. I remember a few occasions which I would like to share with you. When I requested one of the senior teachers to contribute some good articles for our journal, the reply was "Actually we have good thesis articles which we send to the journal of Endodontics for publication, however I will see if I could find some for you." On requesting another senior teacher, the answer was "The level of our articles is much higher, we prefer sending it to the foreign journals." These episodes left me perplexed as to how to improve upon the quality of the journal, who will contribute and who will share the responsibility.

I feel it is the moral duty of all the members to make the journal quality oriented by sending good articles. As said earlier, contributions by all of you are needed for the improvement of the journal so that it can be popular and successful.
